Second Act - Second Chances

MIDLIFE TRANSITIONS

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

CAREER REINVENTION

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

LEISURE AND CREATIVITY

https://open.substack.com/pub/lynnhardin?r=okcn9&utm_medium=ios

The second act for a woman is like rebooting your favorite TV show with a twist—you know the main character's quirks, but this time she's ditching the 9-to-5 grind for a watercolor painting class that meets at what used to be happy hour.

It’s a chance to shake things up: swap board meetings for board games with the grandkids, or trade financial reports for writing steamy romance novels.

It’s not all smooth sailing, though. The pains of starting anew include wrestling with a new skill like writing, discovering that your body doesn’t recover from Zumba like it’s 1999, and realizing that your dream of a peaceful house is constantly thwarted by family members who think "retired" means "available 24/7." But, with a dash of humor and a good dose of resilience, the second act can be the most rewarding part of the show—plot twists included!

Title: Searching for Enough

https://searchingforenough.substack.com

Searching For Enough is place to explore how we can be most like ourselves away from the noise of the world and where your uncle constantly asks why you chose to wear that outfit to the annual family reunion last week. Aka, a space for readers to explore and search what enough-ness means in your life. What happens when we remove the noise of what other people and society thinks of us and our place in the world? How can you use the insights you’ve found and apply it to how you want to show up?

Title: WAYBOUND: The Ruin and the Road

URL: https://www.waybound.space

Description:

Under the light of distant stars, a Fool's War is brewing. In the far future, two interstellar superpowers are locked in a renewed cold war that only decades before briefly went hot. Tensions have since died down, but the astropolitical landscape— and the peace— is only as stable as the policy and policymakers that drive it. As calls from the hawks in both Sol and ε Eridani reach a fever pitch, the tenuous détente hangs by a thread. Memories of the Maybe War are fading. The people clamor for confrontation. They know not what they do.

Yesterday's war was undeclared, contained, and brief. Among those in the know, however, there are no such illusions that tomorrow's war will be the same.

A perfect storm is on the horizon. This is the story of how the worlds fell apart— told through the eyes of the people that were there. Leaders, soldiers, and normal people, just trying to get by all will have their experiences explored in a science fiction short story anthology as we chronicle the collapse of the old order, and the birth of a new one.

PROSE/LYRICAL POEMS/WORDS

William Kyd -- https://williamkyd.substack.com/

Words. Sentences. Song Lyrics. Lyric Poems. Poetry. Prose. Songs. COLOUR in ART, DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE

The Colour Spotter Chronicles

https://colorspotter.substack.com

Architect & colour designer, writing about colour in art, design and architecture. Exploring the power of colour in shaping space and human experience.

Hello from Belgium! I am an architect and colour designer. I have worked with colour for more than 15 years, mostly in urban/architectural contexts but also in interiors and experiential and environmental graphic design. My passion for colour started when I pursued postgraduate studies in environmental colour design where I delved deeper into colour science and the methodologies of colour design. The whole new world of colour opened in front of me and I realised this voyage of learning about colour was going to last a lifetime. The field of colour is very vast and it spans many disciplines. I have experimented with different methods of working with colour, both artistically and within the design process and have met many great colour experts. I have gathered many stories, notes, photographs and sketches along the way and realised it could be interesting for others (and myself) to write about my experiences with colour in art, design and architecture and that's how "The Colour Spotter Chronicles" were born.

Sarah, this list is wonderful, I have found so many interesting Substacks, thank you for the opportunity!

ART, SURREALISM, WOMEN, CREATIVE WRITING

My Substack is The Fur Cup https://thefurcup.substack.com/

where I write about imaginary encounters with surrealist art, twice a month.

I take a picture or a sculpture and dramatise it in some way, sometimes entering into the space of the picture or imagining the figures and relationships within the artwork.

It's weird stuff, but people have said that they like it! I want to make art accessible and to promote the work of the women surrealists in this centenary year of surrealism's beginnings.

I Remember that I must die but I do not wish to die in vain; therefore, I must write till I have nothing left to say.

If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain; If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain. -Emily Dickinson
